Love Trumps Hate
Just a Thought
Dear Resistance

Dear Resistance,

We first met last January at the Presidential Inauguration. You were obnoxious and ugly even then in your infant stages; as the love child of George and Hillary I expected nothing less. Although it’s still unclear exactly what it is you’re doing here, I feel we’ve given you ample time to prove your point; and now it’s time to go.

In all fairness, you do have an impressive list of achievements and I’d like to acknowledge some of them before sending you on your way.

You’ve tricked millions of Americans into believing that symbolic altuism is a true form of activism. That people who subscribe to, what I like to call the bumper sticker mentality, should be regarded as heroes and “difference makers”. The truth is, while marching, kneeling, and wearing matching ball gowns may make you feel good, these simple gestures fall short when it comes to facilitating actual change in our communities. Saying you care about important issues, and doing the hard work it takes to address them are two very different things.

You have destroyed the traditional meaning of feminism. A word once used to describe fearless heroines determined to level the playing field in a male dominated world, is now used to describe women dressed as giant genitalia.

What is the point of this? Who is this helping? This wouldn’t even be acceptable at Breakfast Club on Chauncey Hill. (If you have any idea what I’m talking about, you might be a Boiler.)

You’ve infiltrated our universities. While calling your political opponents racists and bigots as a means to push certain political agendas, you have turned young people into total morons.  Our college campuses are now filled with kids who spout off unfair and ignorant judgements about minorities that are actually racist. Take the topic of voter laws for instance; this video by Ami Horowitz brilliantly illustrates how liberals actually see black people.

Are we really supposed to sit by while you turn our kids into dum dums… on our dime? I know I won’t. College enrollment is already in steady decline and you, my friend, aren’t helping.

You brought grown men to their knees. In what should have been a real conversation about important issues regarding policing and minorities, your poorly timed protest put the NFL at odds with their fans, and trivialized the few moments we have set aside to honor our military each week. Quite an impressive fete, I must say.

You’ve bullied your fellow Americans into hiding their support for our President; including women, minorities and LGBT, all whom you claim to champion. There are millions of people who hide their political views for real fear of loosing their jobs, being attacked, or being publicly labeled as a (insert your favorite “ist” here). When people refuse to be intimidated by your fear tactics and choose to call you out on on them, you simply muffle their voices with one of your many political weapons including the MSM and your conservative censoring social media platforms.

This is not progress. This is, as you love to say, fascism. Actual fascism.

Telling young minorities that “white conservative” is synonymous with “white supremacist” is what I find most repulsive about you. Especially considering that this demographic, which you tirelessly try to demonize, consistently donates millions of dollars to organizations that work with minorities. Tell me, why would these people dig into their deep pockets to empower minorities with one hand, while suppressing them with the other? And how exactly does it help young people to convince them they are targeted victims of one group or another? That people don’t care about them when in fact, they certainly do?

The reality is that people in this country go out of their way every single day to do things to improve the lives of others; I know this first hand. For 17 years the Light Foundation has been asking people to invest their time, talents, and resources into programs designed to help disadvantaged kids. Yet, at no point in time has anyone ever stopped and asked what color the kids in our programs are. Shame on you, Resistance.

You’ve hijacked the Democratic Party. Plain and simple. There are millions of well intended Americans that have been loyal to the party for decades who are now wondering why all you do is talk about collusion (a word you probably wish would go away right now) and baseless impeachment. Seriously? If the Democrats want to win back the affections of everyday voters, they may want to start focusing on what is of actual importance to them. Hint: It’s not Russia.

You’ve mocked hard working Americans for celebrating tax cuts and wage increases. Where I come from people live paycheck to paycheck, so “crumbs” put gas in your car and food on your table. A thousand dollar bonus could mean getting ahead for once. I know that sounds unfathomable to you, but there’s no need to make fun of people.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and assume this person enjoyed a life of private schools and pony rides. Which is fine of course, until you belittle people who do not have immediate access to these things. Who does that?

◊  ◊  ◊

You see, all of your “accomplishments” are actually pushing otherwise moderate Democrats across the party line. This disconnect with everyday people is only going to help get Trump re-elected. Because, unfortunately for you, people are beginning to tire of your theatrics, your identity politics, and your unending thirst to be offended.

You’ve gotta laugh….

I’ve got to hand it to you, a few of your accomplishments have provided a bit of levity to the ongoing political climate in this country. You’ve actually convinced people to take a long hard look at what pronoun they identify with… I mean, that’s pretty funny.

Baked goods have been stripped of their manhood. I’m assuming this is meant to be funny, so please forgive me if it’s not… it’s just hard to take you seriously sometimes.

And safe places from Ben Shapiro? I know Ben can come off as insensitive when he says, “Facts don’t care about your feelings.” But scary? Come on now.

Where do we go from here?

My dear Resistance, do you remember all those snarky comments you made on the Facebook posts you should have just scrolled on by? Your “F” bomb filled Tweets?  Those drunkin “I hate Trump. How could you vote for him” rants you went on? Probably not, but we do. So please keep in mind that eventually, at some point, your candidate will be called President, and your selfish hate-filled resistant behavior will still be there… lingering in the air around you.

So, don’t you think it’s time to get out of the way so the Democrats can get some work done? Besides, this anger will eat you up inside. I believe Roald Dahl best describes the physical consequences of this process:

Don’t let this happen to you.

I certainly wouldn’t ask you to like our President… or even give him a chance for that matter. The good news is, no one cares. If you haven’t noticed, the rest of America has moved on. We wake up, work hard, look out for each other, collect our bonus checks, and thank our lucky stars that the “woman who did Bernie dirty” isn’t in the White House. You should do the same. It’s time.

Best,

P.S.- Thank you to the talented Leslie Morris for providing the artwork in my feature picture. Love you lady.
