May Beauty Picks

It’s been a while since I’ve posted my Beauty Picks, so I’m super excited about sharing my current skin, hair, and makeup obsessions! Since my list is a bit longer than usual, I’ll get right to it.

Reader tip: If you’re new to the blog, I’ve made the names of the products into clickable links to sites you can purchase each of them.

Skin

  • Baby Foot

A couple months ago my friend Sarah told me about this foot exfoliating miracle and my feet haven’t been the same since. There isn’t a pedicure on the planet that can do what this product can accomplish right at home! You simply slide on the provided plastic booties filled with gel, kick back for an hour, and rinse. A few days later all the rough skin on your feet starts to peel off! Trust me on this one… it’s magic.

  • Mario Badescu Glycolic Grapefruit Cleansing Lotion

Glycolic Acid is great for removing dead skin cells, extra dirt, and makeup that you may have missed while washing. Just apply to a cotton ball and wipe over entire face, neck, and chest. Then follow with your usual products.

  • St. Tropez Gradual Tan Tinted Body Lotion

I’ve had several people ask me about self tanner lately so I figured I’d better add my favorite to the list. I actually only use tanner this time of year; when the sun reveals just how scary bright white my legs are after the long cold winter! Since this formula is gradual, you can control how dark you want to go based on how many times you apply. The tinted formula makes application easier because you can see any spots you may have missed. St. Tropez makes tanning mitts to protect your hands, but I actually prefer to use powder free nitrile gloves because you don’t loose any product to the spongy mitt. Before applying, I put on a thin layer of lotion to my baby-soft feet (you see what I did there?), knees, and elbows since those spots tend to soak in extra tanner. Also, I actually don’t use self tanner on my face; for some reason I feel like it ages me. Plus, my makeup adds enough color to make it all blend.

  • Soothing Touch Body Oil

As I get older I’m noticing my skin is often in need of extra hydration. Mixing body oil with my everyday lotion provides extra moisture and lasting power. There are a lot of great oils out there, but right now I’m hooked on Soothing Touch in Sandalwood.

Hair

  • Unite Liquid Expanda Dust

In my February Beauty post I introduced you to Unite hair products, and they made my list of favorites again! My stylist, Alysha Cornetta, owner of Amore Hair Design in Foxboro, uses it to add weightless volume and texture to her clients hair. I’ve found that it works great on wet hair too; After washing, I section off hair, spraying and twisting each section, then let it air dry. The result is perfectly wavy, textured hair without the fuss. I also find that I can get an extra day without washing my hair when I use it; a rarity for me.

  • Colortrax Croc clips

Speaking of sectioning off hair… If you’re like me and use clips to section hair off when styling, you will want to have a couple of these lying around! Most clips and elastics leave creases in my hair after only a minute or so. These are designed to remedy the problem. I also love that they’re lightweight and don’t pull on your hair.

  • Nexxus Humectress Hydrating Hair Mask

I stumbled across this hair mask when my daughter asked me to find something to help tame her split ends. After trying it for myself I grabbed a stack of them on my next trip to Target, because it worked so insanely well! Since you don’t need to apply daily, I just use it on days we have special events or a date night.

Makeup

  • It Cosmetics Eyelift in a Tube

I’ve been curious about this company ever since they’ve been landing primetime real estate at Ulta. After trying this under eye concealer/highlighter combo, I understood what all the hype was about. The concealer has great coverage and goes on smooth. The highlighter end is super lightweight and blends perfectly with a…

  • Real Techniques Makeup Sponge

Since I’m typically a little late to the party, I only recently started using sponges to apply my makeup. If you haven’t tried them, I highly suggest it. Simply run under water, squeeze out as much moisture as you can, and use like you would your fingertips or brushes. I find the result is much more natural looking than using other methods.

  • Lorac Pro Matte Lip Color in Tawney

I’ve tried at least 3 dozen different shades of “neutral” before finding what I consider to be perfect for my coloring. Lorac did a great job with their “matte” formula… it’s not dry or pasty, but I still like to pair it with gloss or lip balm. My favorite combo right now is this with a touch of Boxum Lip Cream in White Russian.

  • bareMinerals Invisible Glow Powder Highlighter

This powder highlighter by bareMinerals is subtle enough for everyday and great for nighttime when layered a bit. I love to add just a touch to my cheekbones to finish off a polished, natural makeup look.

Have a great weekend Beautiful! Happy Mother’s Day!
